Citel Technologies' Hardware Upgrade to its Portico TVA Receives Approval

Citel Technologies (News - Alert), a developer of network-edge products enabling enterprises to realize the cost and productivity benefits of IP telephony, stated that its Portico Telephone VoIP Adapter (TVA) was equipped with a hardware upgrade, enabling it to be powered by 48vDC in a central office environment.

The upgrade has now received regulatory approval.

According to Citel, the Portical TVA is premises-based device capable enabling carriers to replace their Centrex system to deliver hosted/cloud or premises-based VoIP services and applications to Centrex telephones already working and in place. Since many carriers are in need of central office (CO) functionality, the Portico TVA was upgraded to run on a CO environment so that the devices can be placed at the CO or the users’ premises, and can utilize 48vDC as its primary source of power at many CO locations.

Using the Portico TVA, one can easily migrate to VoIP utilizing existing digital (PBX (News - Alert)), IP phone (Centrex), or analog handsets and existing phone cabling. While other VoIP migration solutions are expensive, time consuming and disruptive, the cost-effective Portico TVA simplifies the migration process, and is transparent to most users.

Customers can retain their existing digital, analog and Centrex phones without removing the existing switches by SIP enabling those phones through the use of the Portico TVA. Since users are already familiar with their existing solutions, they can have confidence in the VoIP migration.

Officials with Citel explained, “Companies have been looking at ways of moving their customers over to IP telephony with minimal disruption, and with this 48vDC powered, Central Office version of the Portico TVA, we can ensure the customer can obtain the benefits of VoIP without any of the disruptions that occur when new cabling, PoE switches and IP phones have to be installed.”
