CITEL ANNOUNCES FULL ROLL OUT OF SIP/IAX2 COMPATIBLE IP PHONE AT ASTRICON 2009

Amherst, NY October 19, 2009 Citel. The VoIP Migration Company today announced a full roll out of its 2-line SIP / IAX2 compatible IP Telephone following its participation at AstriCon 2009 in Glendale, Arizona. Management initiated a gradual introduction of its C-4110 IP Telephone five months ago to test market acceptance for its entry level IP Telephone and, after strong positive feedback from the market, determined a full roll out was appropriate.

The Citel IP-Phone 4110, manufactured with high quality in mind, offers unique value as an advanced, fully featured two-line IP Telephone that takes full advantage of VoIP technology by offering a flexible, interoperable solution at an affordable price. It leverages the SIP & IAX2 standards to provide advanced calling, conferencing, and messaging features.

Having a phone supporting IAX2 is an excellent fit for those deploying Asterisk (News - Alert). The Key Feature list includes the following: 2 Line / Call appearances with LED; Web based configuration and auto-provisioning via TFTP; Dual Ethernet, PoE, SIP and IAX2 compatible; 8 distinctive ring tones, volume and ringer level control and voicemail retrieval via keypad or programmable keys; Integrated 2 port 10/100 MBPs switch, RJ9 headset jack and VLAN / DHCP support One blogger reported after testing a unit that "I would also have no problem deploying this phone for a hosted PBX (News - Alert) (Asterisk) system - in fact I would probably deploy this phone over a pure SIP phone due to its support for IAX." The key advantages of IAX2 over SIP are efficient use of bandwidth, and ease of use in NAT situations - there is no need for the additional complication of Session Border Controller or Application LayerGateway ( News - Alert) functionality needed with SIP. IAX2 easily traverses firewalls and network address translators. This is in contrast to SIP, H.323 and MGCP which use an out-of-band RTP stream to deliver information.

Being one of the first US companies to come to market with its own SIP / IAX2 compatible phone, Citel is proud of its leading edge products and is excited about the market potential for its IP Telephone and is already working towards expanding its IP Telephone product line.
